I have the pictures & the trophies, so now all we need to do is have a party. So let's have one this Wednesday, June 30, from 6:00-7:00. I decided to go for a place with AC, so I reserved the gym at Highland Park Christian Church (where we practiced). Just go up the ramp, into the main doors, up the stairs & you'll see the gym on the left. Bring $3 a person (for whoever wants pizza). I'll just wait and order it once we are there. Also, if you can bring cookies or a pop, that would be great.
Lastly, if you can't make it, let me know when I can get your pics & trophy to you.

Your Week Just Got More Hectic

The last of the rescheduled games were scheduled. Here is our new schedule for this week.

Monday - No practice. We need one night off this week.

Tuesday - 6:00, Field 3 vs. Bell

Wednesday - 7:30, Field 1 vs. Lanier (This is the 2nd game of a double-header for Lanier.)

Thursday - 6:00, Field 5 vs. Cornerstone

Friday - 6:00, Field 5 vs. Cornerstone (We will have pictures following the game on Friday, 5/28.)

Rescheduled Game

We have a game on Saturday, May 15 at 10:00, field 5.

No Game on May 10. Practice on 11th

Games are cancelled tonight due to the threat of severe weather. Let's have a practice tomorrow at 5:30. If it's really wet or raining, we'll practice in the gym. Just enter the main doors & then go upstairs.
Also, if big tornados start to get close, as they are saying is a possibility, and you don't have a place to go, call my cell phone. I'll come up to the church building and would be glad to let you in, if things get scary. It's 798-5622.

Rockets Have a Great Start

The coaches were so proud of the Rockets in their first game. They did all the things that we have been practicing. Family members, you rocked too. Thanks for encouraging the players. And thanks for helping our kids find home plate (as opposed to the batting tee that the ump would move). I gotta a lot of laughs out of that. See ya Tuesday at 6:00 for our next game. Also, if you have a couple of really good pics, I'd love it if you e-mailed them to me, or just let me know if you have them on a facebook page or blog.

Practice

We will have practice today (Wednesday) at 5:30. If it's raining or wet outside, we'll practice in the church gym. (from the main parking lot, walk up the ramp to the main double doors & go up the stairs). We'll be done by 6:15 at the latest.

Game Canceled for Ap. 19

Our game is canceled tonight. I'd go over there with & blow dryer & really long extension chord if they'd let me. Sorry. I'm bummed too. We'll still have a short practice on Wednesday at 5:30. Game on Friday. Keep Saturday open if you can. There is a good chance that our game will be made up then, but I don't know any details.

Beware of the Yale Traffic

I've heard that lots of people have been late to the games at Lafortune due to the construction & slow traffic on Yale. You may want to take an alternate route or just leave plenty early. Shoot to be there by 5:30. Thanks.

All Games will be at Lafortune Park, starting at 6:00. Players need to be there by 5:40, so that we can finalize the roster. We'll need to have a few practices in order to keep learning as we go. Those practices will not last more than an hour. Some may only last for 30 minutes. Keep checking back, as some dates could change.

Schedule for April 12-23

Hey Rockets!
We will practice on Monday, 4/12, and Thursday, 4/15, from 5:30-6:30.
Then we have games on Monday, 4/19, and Friday, 4/23, at 6:00. All of our games are at Lafortune Park. We may have a short practice that week too, but we'll play that one by ear.
I'll post the full schedule later. I'm off to a coach's meeting now.

Schedule for the week of April 5-12

We'll plan on having two practices this week: Monday & Thursday, both at 5:30. If it's raining today (Monday), we'll practice in the church gym.

I still don't have a game schedule. I think that games will probably start the following week.

First Practice

Our first practice is on Monday, March 29 from 5:30-6:30. We'll practice in the field behind Highland Park Christian Church at 5708 E 31st St. You can park there or park on 32nd St. If it rains, we'll practice in the gym. Please bring $12 for the jersey & hat, and bring a copy of your child's birth certificate & league money if you still need to do that.

Hoover Baseball Intro

We are looking forward to a great season. We have two big goals that we'll talk about with the kids a lot. We want to...

1. Help everyone on the team have fun.

2. Get better at baseball by learning, practicing and playing to our best ability.

If the coaches, families & players all try to do these two things, we'll have a great year.

You may have noticed that "winning" isn't one of our big goals this year. Lots of times in youth baseball, a groundball is hit to the pitcher, who then runs to first base instead of throwing the ball there. The result may be an "out" but it doesn't teach kids how to play the game. We are going to cheer really loud when our kids make the right play, regardless of the outcome. We'll all be glad that we took this approach in a few years.
